Task 3: The Importance of Communication Skills for engineers
“While all engineers should have good communication skills, global engineers
face additional challenges, making effective communication an imperative.”
Debra Kraft, Careers Content Writer, Demand Media (2016)
The then merit scholar turned automotive systems, senior manager, Debra Kraft stated that it would be desirable for engineers to have excellent communication abilities; Engineers from all around the world would have newfound tribulations and would find themselves working together to solve them, hence the necessity for effective communication.
I strongly agree with Debra Kraft's view. With the increasing connectivity in our societies, engineers do find opportunities working all around the world as well as in varying industries.
There is an urgent need to overcome various communication barriers such as; language or translation challenges, differing technical details or jargon across different engineering sectors working together, and even conceptual or workflow-related miscommunications.
Engineers, internationally, should equip themselves with the right efficacious communication tools to combat the many adversities they may face in conveying their intents, objectives, and information.
Doing so would increase the efficiencies of global engineers, encourage the engagement and refinement of international or cross-industry projects/initiatives, and usher the engineering industries and societies that benefit from them to a newer age of collaboration and progress.
I agree with the point that communication is really important especially in the current industry whereby sharing our ideas can help the engineering industry to progress further and faster
